The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organization which has been operating in Somalia since 1997. DRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by conflict and natural disaster. DRC programs include Protection, Food security & Livelihoods, Shelter/NFI and Water & Sanitation.

ABOUT THE JOB

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Somalia Programme is seeking for Protection Monitors Somali national who will be based in Baidoa. The Protection monitors is responsible carrying out systematic daily monitoring and reporting of protection issues of persons of concern to DRC protection officer on daily and weekly basis with the focus on the women, children, elderly, among the IDPs, refugees and returnees population. The information should be crosschecked and reliable sources, and must coordinate with the protection officer in providing adequate response to survivors of rights based violations.   Respect for CONFIFENTIALITY is required.

The overall responsibilities

Procurement

  • Monitor, verify and document returnees’ human rights violations and protection risks
  • Monitor and document returnee’s movements and reintegration in the areas of return.
  • Identify and document protection concerns among returnees and when deemed necessary, provide direct personalized assistance to vulnerable families.
  • Track and document general conflict and displacement issues in areas of return.
  • Present progress reports on daily and weekly basis or as may be decided by supervisor.
  • Support the Protection Monitoring Supervisor/information management officer in data entry and analysis.
  • In conjunction with the local authorities/community, identify returnees at risk with specific needs, provide them with ad hoc immediate assistance, and refer them to specialized services as may be deemed necessary.
  • Maintain and strengthen close working relationship with returnees, host community, religious/ community leaders and local authority.
  • Support protection officer in mapping of services and humanitarian needs.
  • Support protection officer in conducting assessments on a needs basis.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned by supervisors
Required qualifications and experience:

  • Diploma, preferably in Social Sciences, Human Rights, International Law or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position with an INGO/LNGO preferably in Somalia/Southcentral context.
  • Good command of spoken and written English and Somali.
  • Excellent organizational skills, self-motivated, proactive and able to accomplish set deadlines.
  • Very honest and trustworthy person
  • Good computer skills – especially Excel spreadsheets and able to work with Formulas, Power Point and Word.

·              Willing to travel and can work under pressure
