The Independent Commission of Boundaries and Federalism (BFC) is one of the national constitutional bodies that is aimed to be part of the reformation of Somali Federal State institutions and made wider outreach consultation about the Federal system, to rebuild Federal state units of Somalia, regions and districts boundaries, the ratification of the established Federal States. This is the Commission to fulfill what the Country Provisional Constitution requires to strengthen the national sovereignty and unity, and adopt most appropriate Federals system in Somalia.
The Boundaries and Federalism Commission (BFC) was endorsed by the cabinet ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia on 7th May 2015 and approved by the Federal Parliament of Somalia on 6th July 2015 and reviewed later its mandate by the Federal Parliament and extended to fulfill its responsibilities up to September, 30th, 2020.
Summary of key functions:
• Provision of technical support in cartographic production:
• Data collection and Analysis:
• Mapping by providing Geographic support:
• Preparation and update of Somali reference maps
• Develop Geographic related into graphic products for stakeholders:
• Supports facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing provision of
technical support in developing and maintaining efficient and accurate information
management systems:
• Provision of technical support in developing and maintaining efficient and accurate.
Provision of technical support in cartographic production
• Knowledge of Somali geography
• Providing assistance in timely preparation maintenance and provision of geographic
information and maps, both physical and digital
• Providing technical support to the unit in geographic information and mapping
• Assisting in the collection processing evaluation and dissemination of geographic
data under the supervision of information Management Officers:
• Contributing to the quality assurance/quality control on all products generated and
disseminated by the unit, including geographic data and maps:
• Support the production and update information products such as reports, charts
and info graphics by turning data into graphical products to convey messages and
storyline: develop advocacy materials including posters, presentations and other
visual materials,
Provides mapping and support focusing on the achievement of the following results:
Preparing and updating reference maps of Somalia:
• Production and update reference maps for Somalia based on available data:
• Preparation and maintenance of descriptive maps
• Management of the development, quality control and production of maps
