Organizational Background

GREDO is an indigenous local NGO.  Non-profit non-partial, non- political and voluntary organization based in Baidoa. To reach the most affected grass-root communities in Bay and Bakool regions and lower Shebelle effectively and efficiently, the necessity of local partnership in relief program appeared. Responding to the partnership need, a group of Somali intellectuals and well-wishers initiated in December 1992 a local non-governmental organization called Gargaar Relief and Development Organization (GREDO) the organization has implemented during these period different projects including relief and emergency programs and later improved into rehabilitation and developmental programs.

ROLE PURPOSE:

As a member of the GREDO-, the Heath project coordinator will work closely with project teams andthe other clinical staff. The Health Project coordinator will be based in GREDO Huddur offices and travel to project sites

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Head of programs and Technically to Health project Manager

Working contacts:

Working with the Finance admin officer, Logistic assistant, Head of programs and the hospital community on need basis.

Key Area of  accountability:

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and review all Health activities in collaboration with Medical Doctor or health staff and other agencies/partners both inside and outside the health cluster forums.
  • To supervise and support all field staff in all Health technical areas in Bay and Bakool to ensure effective delegation and work allocation.
  • Write internal Health technical reports (including but not limited to monthly and quarterly facility reports, surveillance reports and outbreak reports) and send to the Head of programs  or , program manager.
  • Identify Health training needs and organize appropriate training for all technical staff working with GREDO in Project locations   and to assist in preparation of training materials in conjunction with the health program manager and other partners.
  • Will be responsible for the roll out of EWARS training in identified sites in collaboration with WHO field office.
  • Will be responsible for the day to day implementation of all the project activities and support the project officer or assistants that will report to him.

M&E and Reporting

  1. Provide weekly update on the health activities implementation
  2. Provide detailed technical monthly, quarterly and supervision for the health activities
  3. Lead district level assessment with the field manager and the consultant.
  4. In liaison with the Hospital HMIS clerics and ensure monthly HMIS data analyzed and report shared with the relevant partners.
Representation

·         Represent GREDO  in bay& Bakool in matters related to Health to donors, national and regional health authorities, NGO networks and other parties as necessary ensuring that all relevant partners are kept positively informed of GREDO .

General:

§  Carry out any duty as assigned by the immediate supervisor or his/her designate in relevance to the mandate of GREDO in Bay& Bakool regions. To carry-out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by his immediate supervisor.

§  To be accountable, give feedback and appropriate information regarding the requested or ongoing tasks to the person or department, for the duties and performances he/she is carrying out for them.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Public Health or Nursing
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in a emergency health program set up
  • Willing to travel and live in difficult  and remote areas
  • A mature person of high professional discipline and moral integrity,
  • Knowledge of local Somali language.
  • Previous experience within a humanitarian aid organization, in particular working in primary health care programs and conducting nursing.
  • Competent to work under stress as the situation may dictate.
  • Ability to work with displaced communities with diverse cultural and ethnic background.

Desirable

  • Experience in Bakool& Bay will be an asset.
  • Clinical experience.
  • Experience in managing  health interventions with international NGOs/UN.
  • Knowledge and experience in Child Right Programming approach
  • Knowledge of the Somalia health system
  • Qualified health scientist with primary health care/community health care experience
  • Computer skills e.g.  Word, Power Point and Excel.
