Organizational Background

GREDO is an indigenous local NGO.  Non-profit non-partial, non- political and voluntary organization based in Baidoa. To reach the most affected grass-root communities in Bay and Bakool regions and lower Shebelle effectively and efficiently, the necessity of local partnership in relief program appeared. Responding to the partnership need, a group of Somali intellectuals and well-wishers initiated in December 1992 a local non-governmental organization called Gargaar Relief and Development Organization (GREDO) the organization has implemented during these period different projects including relief and emergency programs and later improved into rehabilitation and developmental programs.

Assignment :

Support and supervise the stabilization centre so in order to improve the treatment of patients.

Means :

General means : colleagues’ job descriptions, planning, SC staff roster,  office, specific stationary

Diploma / Level of studies :

DE Nurse or Psychologist with a strong interest in nutrition

Required skills :

Experience in team management , stabilization centre management

Good relations with other people, interpersonal skills, and also technical skills

Objective 1 : Team management :

Activities :

–          Participate in the recruitment of staff ;

–          Developing monthly staff roster and timetable

–          Draw up a planning of the work involved for each post ;

–          Organize regularly evaluation meetings of team members ;

–          Organize training courses ;

–          Organize monthly meetings with the team and report the outcome to the head of the programme ;

–          Keep an updated register of the staff (absences, overtime) ;

–          Supervise the daily and monthly reports of the team ;

–          If there is a problem, find out what is wrong and find a solution or else contact your immediate supervisor ;

–          In case of a conflict between team members try to mediate ;

–          Check the way in which the team interacts with the beneficiaries and those accompanying them.

Objective 2 : Supervise the stabilization  centres :

Activities :

–          Follow and respect the current protocols

–          Add the activities linked to care practices in the protocols ;

–          Follow the treatment of the beneficiaries during visits at in patient;

–          Participate in the follow-up of orders and consumption ;

–          Analyse the nutritional situation ;

–          Compile the statistical data and draft a report on activities and submit to the nutrition coordinator.

Objective 3: Assure supervision of health education activities:


– Make sure that the activities put in place are well adapted for stimulating the beneficiaries/caregivers

– Be sure that the messages provided during health education sessions are well adapted and respectful to the people

Objective  4 : Team management :

Activities :

– Assure that job descriptions of nurses, nutritionist helpers, health educator are well respected

– Participate to regular evaluation of the team

– Define with the nutrition team (theoretical and practical skills), nutritional and care practices training needs and organise it..

– Ensure that the hand over between each shift team is

Objective 5: Participate in the external and internal communication

Activities :

– Participate in weekly meeting with the supervisor, GREDO  nutrition coordinator according to needs.

– Participate in the coordination meeting

– Participate in regular meeting with other agencies in order to analyse and compile the different information;

– Assure a good communication between the OTP-TFC

Objective 6 : Collecting data and reporting

Activities :

– Check medical statistic such as morbidity, mortality, transfer follow up, Kala azar and immunisation coverage on a monthly base

– Collect and check health education report on a monthly base

– Compile data on a monthly report and write a narrative report on the activities carried out by SC team, strengths and weaknesses

– Monthly pharmacy stock report and consumption

– Make physical inventories report of the main pharmacy and nurse’s pharmacy every 3 months

– Participate in collaboration with the doctor and GREDO  nutrition manager

– submit monthly , weekly reports on time as agreed with GREDO  nutrition manager

Objective 7 : Develop a psychosocial approach for the prevention and treatment of malnutrition :

Activities :

–          Integrate the psychological dimension and maternal care in the comprehension of malnutrition ;

–          Identify the psychosocial needs that are not covered and make recommendations ;

–          Support and help with the development of new psychosocial activities when needed..
