Save the Children in Somalia/Somaliland has been operational in Somaliland for over 40 years, with programs across the following sectors: WASH, Food Security and Livelihoods, Health, Nutrition, Education, Child Rights Governance, Disaster Risk Reduction and Child Protection.


Save the Children Emergency Roster Staff are deployed to support either existing programs in their emergency response, or to initiate a new program in the crisis zone. The overall responsibility of the team is to rapidly and effectively respond, to meet the immediate needs of the affected population.

The roster staff will be placed in a database and called as the need arises. The staff under this emergency roster should be able to report to duty within 72 hours.

The position is as follow:

  1. WASH Officer

Below you will find the brief description of the role and the criteria required to fill the role:

o   WASH Officer

To carry out public health assessments for affected population, including assisting in collection of baseline information, To coordinate hygiene promotion work with Save the Children staff, partners, relevant Government institutions and community mobilizers, Working closely with the Water and Sanitation Engineering team to mobilise communities to support the construction and maintenance of water and sanitation facilities such as water points, latrines and bathing areas


Experience and Qualifications required

·         A suitable educational qualification in community health, public health, nursing, social science.

·         Experience in implementing and coordinating hygiene promotion activities, including programme design, implementation and evaluation.

·         Ability to write clear, well-argued assessment and project reports, and assist in preparing successful funding proposals for donors relevant to hygiene promotion

·         Monitoring and evaluation skills including knowledge on KAP surveys
