Organizational Background:
SOUTHERN AID is an African-based Non –Governmental Organization implementing several humanitarian projects including health/nutrition, livelihood and food-security programs in different locations of Somalia with the aim of alleviating poverty and fostering sustainable development practices in arid and semi-arid (ASAL) areas of the regions dominated by nomadic pastoral communities. SOUTHERN AID currently partnered with IOM DDR (Disarmament, demobilization and reintegration Department) on Community based case management during reintegration phase ofthe national program on disengaged combatants for Males in Kismayo Rehabilitation Centre. We are willing to employ highly motivated and experienced person to fill the position described below.
Project Background:
community based case management during reintegration phase of the national program on disengaged combatants for males in Kismayo is three months program that aims to provide proper transitional plan for the graduating combatants undertaking outreach services monitoring the progress at the community level.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Outreach Officer will be required to carry out;
Lead efforts to foster understanding of the National Programme within the community;
Act as the focal person for community outreach and advocacy, utilizing his/her strong connections within the communities;
Organise monthly community-based events engaging 20-40 participants at a time, including new graduates, former graduates, and other community members where the participants can interact and exchange information to counter stigma and fear; and
Engage local and national poets and artists to bring together the community and graduated disengaged combatants, and to foster connection and understanding using traditional Somali appreciation for poetry and arts.
Work in culturally sensitive ways to enhance the participation and acceptance of disengaged combatants in their communities
Under guidance from the project Coordinator, coordinate, monitor, and report on intra-and inter-community dialogue involving disengaged combatants and their communities at rehabilitation centre and drop-in space in Kismayo
Under guidance from the project Coordinator, coordinate, monitor and report on workshops and events on arts, sports and culture for the disengaged combatants at the rehabilitation centres and drop-in space.
Under guidance from the project Coordinator, coordinate, monitor and report on sports and cultural events and tournaments outside of the rehabilitation centres, involving the communities and disengaged combatants in Kismayo.
Perform other duties as assigned by the line-manager
Qualification, Skills and Experience:
Diploma in Case Management, Social Sciences, Social Work, Psychology, Teaching, Healthcare or Community Development.
Fluent in Somali & working knowledge in English.
Minimum of two years of demonstrable relevant Social Development experience. Ability and willingness to work under pressure.
Knowledge of English and Somali language.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Prior work experience in Jubaland State regions is highly preferred
Ability to manage a complex and diverse workload, and meet deadlines. Respectful and appropriate attitude towards the community.
Ability to contribute as team member, and working collaboratively with colleagues. Proficiency in using computer applications including Excel and MS Word
