Workshop Description

Almost every day, newspapers, radio and television channels carry reports on disaster striking over several parts of the world. But what is a disaster and how it is possible to manage?  Natural or manmade hazard caused a huge loss to life and property and disrupted the normal life of the many people in the world, thus how the society within same area can prevent the disruption of hazards? Those who have had the opportunity to undergo and participate in this course will benefit from this workshop and they will be able to understand around this subject.

Workshop objectives:-

The objectives of this workshop are to introduce its participants the basic concepts of disaster management, natural and manmade disaster, phases and cycle of disaster management, damage, losses of disaster and its response as well as community safety development.

At the end of this workshop the participants will be able to;-

  1. Understand the basic concepts of disaster and its management cycle
  2. Increase their knowledge and understanding the importance of risk reduction in their respective society.
  3. Gain a comprehensive knowledge related the causes of disasters, vulnerable areas in Somalia and its appropriate solutions.
  4. understand the psychological and health impact of natural and manmade hazards
  5. Explore the community safety national program absence impact on the society and the needs for its development

Who should participate?

This is an open workshop for everyone to participate, but the basic target participants of this workshop are public institutions Staff, officials of International organizations and NGO, civil society organizations, political parties, post-graduate, as well as universities students.

Workshop agenda

This workshop agenda consists of five (5) models and it will highlight the following topics:-

  1. Natural and manmade disaster, damage, losses and its response
  2. Phases and cycle of disaster management
  3. Environment management, disaster prevention and its impact mitigation
  4. The psychological and health impact of the disaster, focusing on the Somalia case
  5. Discovering the disaster vulnerable areas in Somalia and promoting a Community safety National program Development

  • Interactive group discussions and quiz
  • Concise and relevant course material
  • Practical application of Disaster management and community safety development tools and samples

Workshop duration:-

Duration: 5 days (15 Credit Hrs)

Shift: Afternoon Shift: 4:00pm- 7:00pm

Time:  10-17 March 2019 (Thursday and Friday are off days)

Venue: SIPSS HQ Hall, KM4, Airport Road, Opposite Sahal Hall, Bulo-hubey village_Wadajir District, Mogadishu, Somalia

Workshop Fee:

  • Workshop fee is $20 USD (Workshop certificate, refreshment and course materials)
  • All fees are payable in advanced on a first–come basis and not refundable
  • B. for the best possible results, the acceptable number for this workshop is limited, therefore you are advised to register at least two days in advance before the workshop start date for a place and for adequate preparation.
