Title:Reading and Education in Crisis or Conflict Advisor

Program Overview:

Chemonics is recruiting for several technical positions for an anticipated $47-49 million USD education program in Somalia. The program will work to increase enrollment in alternative education sites, improve their safety, monitor acquisition of literacy, numeracy and socio-emotional skills amongst the learners who enroll in them, and enhance the capacity of ministries of education at multiple levels.

Role:

Chemonics seeks an experienced professional to undertake the role of Reading and Education in Crisis or Conflict Advisorfor thisanticipated USAID-funded program. The Reading and Education in Crisis or Conflict Advisorwill support the project’s efforts to develop and revise lessons and classroom materials as well as provide input into developing the standards and non-formal education framework. The Reading and Education in Crisis or Conflict Advisor will also provide technical leadership for this evidence-based accelerated education program focused on reading, numeracy, and socio-emotional learning, collaborate with local stakeholders to conduct field testing to validate methods and tools, and report to the project’s senior management team.

Qualifications & Experience:

Reading and Education in Crisis or Conflict Advisor

  • A master’s degree in education, education administration, supervision, development studies, or a related field
  • At least six years of experience managing an aspect of early grade reading projects in formal or non-formal education settings
  • Familiarity with principles and concepts of reading, numeracy, and socio-emotional learning, as well as tools to assess those skills
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities and personnel across several geographic areas.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts to a range of stakeholders with differing levels of contextual knowledge
  • Experience presenting research at large-scale research conferences or learning events with a wide range of academic, governmental, and civil society stakeholders preferred
  • Fluency in English required (level 4 on the Foreign Service Institute scale); Somali required.
