The African Academy for Professionals (AAP) is glad to present short term training on Financial Management Training for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) for organizations, business, and non-business communities.

Course title Financial Management for Non-Governmental Organizations
For Graduates, NGO  staff (programs and finance) and other interested people
Duration 5 Days
Methodology Lectures, presentations, group work, tests and sharing practical experiences

Purpose

This five days course aims to build the capacity of NGO staff (programs and finances) and other interested people to effectively manage financial resources in an accountable and transparent manner, to understand and meet donor’s requirements, and to achieve goals and objectives of the organizations. It also builds the capacity of graduates to enable them to work in the NGOs sectors

Course Contents

This five days course has three main themes:

  • Essential skills for good financial management practices

This section starts with the introduction of financial management and it looks in-depth on the four building blocks of financial management which include accounting records, financial planning, financial monitoring, and internal controls

  • managing audits

This section looks at how to prepare for and manage the external audit, the role of auditing in NGO financial management and what comes to the audit report.

  • Fraud and Corrupt practices

Throughout the course, we discuss the ways of detecting and dealing with fraud, the definition of corruption and its impact and how to conduct a zero-tolerance approach to bribery

On the final day, we will reflect together on the practical tools and key messages explored during the five days and look at how you plan to integrate ideas into your own work.

Abdirahman Mohamed is a qualified Finance Manager, Operations Specialist, and lecturer. He has more than 12 years of experience in Financial Management Not-for-profit organizations. Currently, He is the CEO at the Institute for Personal and Organizational Development (IPOD). He has extensive experience in the realm of financial management and administration for Non-Governmental Organizations including systems design, budgeting, reporting, auditing, and capacity building.
