CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER – SOMTEL SOMALILAND

Company Summary:

Somtel Group is the Telecommunications arm of Dahabshiil Group and one of the leading telecommunications player in Somalia and Somaliland by subscribers.  Somtel is company member under the Dahabshiil Group, the fastest growing business group with interests in financial services, banking, telecommunications, real estate, and energy & power sectors among others. The Somtel Group office, under the leadership of the Group CEO plans to recruit CEO Somtel Somaliland who will be in charge of driving the overall company strategy and achieve strategic objectives, growth and develop leadership & people capabilities, enhance customer experience and improve financial performance. 

General Position Summary:

The Chief Executive Officer will be responsible to build and lead our company’s growth and business strategies. Take day to day decision on strategic matters after input from Board, top management at the Dahabshiil and Somtel Group level. 

Essential Job Functions: 

                 i.          Drive strategic initiatives to achieve company vision and business objectives and facilitate cascading and alignment of the strategic objectives across all functions

               ii.          Lead the development of an effective and efficient executive management at Somtel, by providing best-in-class corporate management to the headquarters and the regions, adhering to international standards, documented policies, processes and procedures and aiming at meeting the KPI targets.

             iii.          Drive performance of the company and support Somtel board in monitoring short- and long-term performance. 

              iv.          Support the implementation of state-of-the-art technology in Somaliland and across all our footprints.

               v.          Build organizational and lead development and implementation of world class leadership development programs and people capabilities.

              vi.          Provide leadership to the function’s executives; manage the succession planning at the CEOs level.

            vii.          Play a leading role in Global telecom and relevant leadership forums to influence industry trends and its business impact.

          viii.          Guide the company and leadership in positively influencing local industry and market trends.

              ix.          Drive the adoption of best-in-class business and governance model

               x.          Focus on customer experience and improve company financial performance

              xi.          Maintain excellent investor standing at all times across and maintain the confidence of the investment community, investors and other stakeholders.

            xii.          Support the implementation of state-of-the-art technology in Somalia/Somaliland and across all our footprints.

          xiii.          Provide leadership, management and vision to ensure that the international operations have the proper control, reporting and administrative procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow, ensure financial strength and operational efficiency

          xiv.          Prepare monthly, quarterly and annually progress reports.

            xv.          Conduct him/her both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Somtel Group and in no way jeopardize group commercial efforts. 

          xvi.          Assist in any other task or duty assigned by the Somtel Group CEO.

Chief Finance Officer, Chief Commercial Officer, Chief Operations Officer, Chief Technical Officer and Human Resource Officer

Accountability

Reports Directly To: Somtel Group CEO 

Works Directly With:

Dahabshiil Group Executive Vice Chairman,  Board of Directors, Other Dahabshiil Group CEOs, Somtel Somaliland Staff, Group Human Resource and Director,  Group Finance Director Community, and Government Representatives 

Knowledge and Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree in Telecom Engineering or Business Administration; Master’s degree preferred.. 10+ years of work experience required of which at least 5+ years at Senior manager level in the telecommunications  industry;  Strong management, leadership & communication skills Target oriented and profit driven Charismatic, integer, highly motivated and team-oriented Political experience, judgment and sensitivity, including a general understanding of lobbying Knowledge of professional tools and proficient in main business languages, i.e. English Experience in Somali and/or in the Eastern African region preferred; Exposure to international business is a plus Demonstrated professional competence and success in organizational development and management and ability to lead in a fast changing environment. Fluency in English  and Somali  languages (verbal and written communication)  Multi-tasking and organizational, prioritization skills are necessary. Demonstrated attention to detail, Ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members is required. Highly developed computers skills with strong familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Candidate must be willing to travel and work in difficult conditions.

Expert knowledge of project management processes and best-practices; Expert knowledge of the telecommunications industry; Good analytical, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; High degree of integrity; Strategic thinking and results oriented; Track record of good management and development skills; Ability to read, evaluate and interpret schematics, diagrams and maps; A high level of personal motivation and enthusiasm; Intermediate knowledge process design frameworks; Advanced project management skills; Advanced conceptual and analytical skills; Advanced C-Level reporting and presentation skills; Advanced negotiations skills; PMP and/or Prince2 certifications required and TILv3 certifications preferred;

Environmental Conditions

This position is based in Hargeisa, Somaliland and is unaccompanied. Travel within Somaliland is required to support all Somaliland’s offices and group’s programs. This position is eligible for very completive salary package and other benefits as per our Human Resource policy.

Somtel group Team members represent the company and Dahabshiil Group both during and outside of work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit to a field posting.
