Country Director, based in Hargeisa, Somaliland

US$70,000-100,000 depending on experience

You’re a seasoned leader with 10-15 years’ in general management, an MBA (or equivalent) and experience of working with a diverse range of stakeholders in an international context. You speak both fluent Somali and fluent English, thrive in a rapidly evolving startup environment and are genuinely positive, curious and passionate about the work that you do.  You are already based in (or are keen and able to relocate to) Hargeisa.

Sahamiye Foundation uses technology and innovation to tackle some of Somaliland’s most pressing development challenges around education, healthcare and infrastructure, delivering directly on the ground rather than through the funding of other NGOs or third parties.

Alongside exciting initiatives as part of our focus on infrastructure, current projects include helping over a million adults and young people to acquire literacy skills in the Somali language and over 100,000 people to develop technical and vocational skills for employment and entrepreneurship. 

Based in Hargeisa and working closely with the team in the UK, the Country Director will have complete ownership of the Foundation’s operations in Somaliland, leading programmes and new initiatives across the country. 

This exciting new role will have an additional focus on partnership development, strategy development, the hiring and managing of staff & consultants, the setting up of robust programme management standards and practices, and the coordination of financial and logistical aspects. It will act as the key point of contact for Sahamiye Foundation in Somaliland, representing its interests at various fora and liaising with local and central government authorities.
