POSITION DESCRIPTION – KIMS MICROFINANCE

Position Title: HR and Public Relations Officer (HR & PR Officer).

Location: Hargeisa

KIMS has branches in Hargiesa, Mogadisho, Borama, Kismayo, Bosaso, Baladweyn, Burco, Laas’caanood and Af-madaw. KIMS Microfinance has business relations with local and international financial institutions and business organizations.

Position Summary

HR and Public Relations Officer (HR & PR Officer) will be responsible for the management of Human Resource and Public Relations activities of KIMS Microfinance. For the HR, the role involves finding, screening, recruiting new job applicants and developing training and development programs for all employees in consultation with the senior management team. The candida will also maintain a motivated and productive staff and will ensure compliance to policies & procedures and regulations of KIMS..

For the PR, the candidate is responsible for handling the external and internal communications of KIMS, executing the PR & media plan, creating and editing content for the KIMS website and digital channels. The incumbent will support the SMT and the Board on the implementation and evaluation of KIMS’s corporate communications strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Human Resource Management

  • Develop, maintain and be a role model for a culture among staff that is open to change and supports continuous quality improvement, collaboration, respect, and accountability.
  • Manage end-to-end workforce planning including forecasting needs, job design and evaluation, recruitment and selection processes, on-boarding new employees and coaching and liaising with line managers.
  • Ensure compliance with KIMS policies and procedures that relate to human resource functions and provide policy recommendation.
  • Establish clear communication with staff to address all concerns and grievances in a timely manner as per policy.
  • Provide effective training to branch managers, and loan officers based on international best practices.
  • Preparation and management of Board papers including the Board meetings agenda and minutes.
  • Organising the annual Board and Committee calendar of meetings, reports, events.

Public Relation Management

Contribute to the creation, and manage the implementation, of the public relations (PR) program, including managing media, creating digital content, supporting special events, and facilitating external and internal communications.

Manage the news page of KIMS website to ensure a steady stream of fresh, quality content and ensure content created for media and the website is leveraged across KIMS’s various digital platforms.

Proactively generate ways to advance the KIMS’s brand in industry trade publications, digital media, speaking opportunities, conference participation and other forms of advertising (e.g radios & tv).

Keep abreast of current PR and digital PR industry standards, trends and techniques and track media coverage and follow microfinance industry trends and inform the SMT and the Board the findings.

Making sure the company’s social performance is in line with the United Nations Social Development Goals (SDGs) and providing quarterly report to the board on the implementation of SDGs.

Identify and attend conferences, seminars, trade shows and other networking events in Somalia in order to raise the profile of KIMS.

Set up relationships with business stakeholders and develop rapport with other MFIs in the region, attend meetings convened by sectoral platforms like NGOs.

Liaises with strategic partners to raise funds, build infrastructure and delivery channels, and also cultivate local strategic relationships.

Provide support to the Board of Directors in fundraising with international and domestic investors and donors to ensure the funding needs.

Build KIMS’ reputation as a company committed to excellent client services, both internally and externally.

Assist CEO & the Board with any other projects as required and perform other related duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, human resources, business or public relations, with at least six years subsequent relevant experience. Master’s Degree in HR or PR would be an added advantage.

Demonstrate ability to think creatively and independently.

Strong work ethic and motivation to succeed,

Proven capacity to operate both strategically and operationally with expertise in strategic development and execution across a range of human resources, operational, organizational and cultural change programs.

Demonstrated ability to implement contemporary management practices to achieve business goals and objectives, in particular those related to business operations.

High level written, electronic and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise efficiently and effectively with Board, managers, external bodies, and stakeholders.

Proven leadership capability that includes developing and leading strategic responses and shaping organizational culture while building effective relationships with other senior colleagues.

Proven familiarity and competence with MSOffice (Microsoft 365) professional software applications and management information systems (ISHRAQ, financial software, etc.).

Superior problem-solving ability and the ability to negotiate successful outcomes in potentially challenging circumstances.

Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to balance different work priorities to meet deadlines.

Be a role model for performing work at a consistently high standard.

Special Requirements

Annual leave must be taken at a time which accommodates the peak workflows of KIMS.

As KIMS Microfinance offices are located over several cities, staff may be required to travel to, or work from, other cities as required.
