About the Job

The Logistics Assistant is responsible for warehousing, air operations activities, dispatch and transport. He/she ensures adherence to the internal logistics guidelines and global warehousing standards.

This is a national/resident position based in Beletweyne, Somalia

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures proper storage of all goods, adhering to FIFO/FEFO and the stipulated safety regulations
  • Makes follow up on cargo from Beletweyne to the final delivery point
  • Keeps track of all logistics activities and continuously shares the updates, these include, goods receipt/shipment and warehousing
  • Dispatches and receives shipment (transported via air and road) for ICRC operations in and around Beletweyne
  • Supervises the offloading of consignments and ensures proper documentation; confirms the waybills and packing lists, verifies number of parcels, signs delivery forms, transfers items into stock, updates the system and bin cards
  • Processes the suppliers’ invoices for payments
  • Organizes delivery of items according to the instructions received from the head office in Nairobi
  • Supports other ICRC Logistics offices within Somalia, when need arises
  • Continuously updates the local logistics tools/system for proper stock management
  • Updates cargo plans and shares information accordingly using the available local tools/system
  • Prepares and shares the required logistics reports and statistics
  • Files and archives the relevant documents in line with ICRC standards and rules

Minimum qualifications and required competencies

  • Diploma in Logistics & Procurement Management, Purchasing & Supply Management, or equivalent qualification in a related field of study
  • 2 years’ work experience in a similar field of activity
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Somali languages
  • Excellent organizational skills and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Ms Office suite (especially Excel and Word)
  • Holder of a valid Driving license
  • Good knowledge of political, social and cultural affairs of the assigned region
  • Willing to travel to other regions within Somalia whenever required
