The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance for relief, emergency school feeding, nutrition and food assistance for assets creation through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Logistics Officer/Head of Berbera Office, and the overall supervision of the Head of Area Office, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
Coordinate vessel discharge at the Berbera port;
Ensure timely dissemination of information to port authorities, stevedores, superintendents, transporters and relevant units to allow adequate time for preparations before the arrival of vessel;
Make follow-ups with stakeholders daily during vessel discharge, bagging and dispatching to ensure smooth running of operations;
Ensure transporters have mobilized enough trucks o uplift cargo during discharging and loading vessels;
Ensure stevedores and the agents responsible have mobilized enough labor force to handle the cargo;
Inspect the condition of the commodities upon arrival and report any discrepancies as appropriate;
Ensure the required gear for handling discharge of commodities are available and verify unit weight and packaging according to WFP Standards;
Attend meetings with various stakeholders on port operations and maintain close coordination with port authorities to secure priority berthing for vessels carrying cargo for humanitarian operations;
Track the movement of food and non-food items, and provide reports on movement of WFP commodities as required;
Maintain filling systems and archives for easy retrieval of information;
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certification in logistics, food safety and quality management are desirable.
Three years of progressively responsible support experience including at least one year in the field of accounting, transport, insurance, statistics and logistics operations. Experience in port operations would be an added advantage.
Knowledge & Skills:
Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali is a requirement.
Sound knowledge and ability to interpret and apply logistics policies, operational processes;
Demonstrated experience in monitoring and managing shipping operations;
Experience utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheets, excel among others;
Hands on logistics experience in the UN or INGOs is desirable.
