This position is located in the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), Operations and Resources Management Pillar, Nairobi Duty Station. The Logistics Officer would be reporting to the Chief, Mission Support Center.
Within delegated authority, the Logistics Officer, will be responsible for the following duties:
• Provides effective and timely planning, oversight, management and coordination of logistics support operations
• Integrates and monitors the implementation of logistics support plans at assigned field missions.
• Coordinates field requests for assistance with DFS units, DPA, DM and permanent missions to the UN.
• Develops policy and procedures documentation for DFS field logistics support.
• Liaises between field missions and Headquarters staff on logistics matters and coordinates day-to-day support of logistics operations.
• Plans and co-ordinates logistics support to new, sustaining, expanding, contracting and liquidating peacekeeping operations and other field missions and other peacekeeping operations.
• Under guidance and/or delegation by the respective SLO/CJLOC/CSCM/CSD/CMSC plans, establishes and directs a fully integrated, field mission joint logistics operations center in accordance with existing
UN directives; provides effective management and successful coordination of logistics support activities of multi-national civilian, military and inter- departmental staff.
• Manages logistics field operations.
• Participates in or leads technical survey missions and verification missions to troop contributing countries.
• Ensures the monitoring of DFS material and personnel movement operations.
• Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs.
• Develops plans and procedures for assessing material, staff, troops and their movements, planning and costing of operational budgets.
• Assumes responsibilities of certifying officer.
• Mentor new/junior officers.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or other relevant field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in surface and/or air transport, logistics operations in military, commercial or international organizations, or related area is required.
Experience of working in a complex, volatile, conflict or post-conflict environment is desirable.
Experience of Mission Strategic Planning and participation in drafting is desirable.
Mission Support contributions to Integrated Strategic Framework, Mission Concept, Mission Annual Work Plan and Military/Police CONOPS is desirable.
Experience in planning and execution of logistics operations or supply chain support services in military, commercial or an international organization or related areas is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the advertised position, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
