Position Title: Project Officer- Economic Development.

Location: Baidoa, Somalia

The Role:

The Project Officer- Economic Development, will ensure the successful implementation and monitoring of Economic Development/Empowerment interventions aimed at contributing to improved child wellbeing outcomes within the Bureau of Humanitarian Affairs (BHA) funded Ultra Poor Graduation project. S/he will work closely with selected Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) beneficiaries, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students and graduates, farmers, livestock keepers, village savings associations and relevant ministries to promote Economic Development and facilitate entrepreneurship amongst project beneficiaries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accuracy and quality based on the partnership approved Economic Development (ED) Project Models (Savings Groups, Business Facilitation and Local Value Chains Development, Micro-Finance, TVET),
  • Take lead in ED beneficiary identification, registration and verification.
  • Ensure proper and timely implementation of ED interventions in the projects as per approved World Vision standards and donor requirements.
  • Develop quality reports (child wellbeing, annual, semi-annul and monthly management reports) in-line with World Vision reporting guidelines.
  • Build the capacity of communities and partners on monitoring including using savings groups’ management information system (MIS), micro finance institution (MFI), business facilitation (BF), Agribusiness and/or Local value chain data (LVCD) collection forms.
  • Ensure that the key laws, polices, regulations and government service delivery standards in Economic Development/Empowerment are shared, interpreted and explained to communities.
  • Facilitate community members to advocate on Economic Empowerment issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Promote accountability, compliance and good stewardship.
  • Consistently record, consolidate and analyze data producing performance trends by Economic Development beneficiaries
  • Update and manage an online reporting system on Economic Development
  • Training of staff, communities and government staff on World Vision Economic Development project models
  • Supervise assistants and a group of community development promoters.

Essential:

  • Bachelors degree in Business Management/Agribusiness/ Agricultural Economics/Agricultural Marketing /Nutrition/Public Health Economics or related field.
  • A minimum of two years working experience in health/nutrition, Economic Development/Agricultural Development/Agribusiness/Agro-finance projects at community level.
  • Understanding the role of savings and TVET contribution in Ultra Poor Graduation.
  • Experience in community engagements, partnerships including Ministries of Trade, Cooperatives, Planning, Social Services and Agriculture,
  • Have practical business knowledge with an emphasis on marketing and financial management.
  • Research, monitoring and evaluation skills is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft word, excel and power point.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of ultra-poor graduation (UPG) models and experience in community/beneficiary coaching and mentoring.
  • Ability to develop training curricula and use different approaches to train communities

Working Environment:

The position is field based in Baidoa Somalia.
