About the Job
The Protection Field Officer contributes to the planning, implementation, monitoring and documentation of ICRC Protection activities in the area of responsibility.
This is a national/resident position based in Guriceel, Somalia
Duties and Responsibilities
Contributes to the implementation of protection activities, and particularly related to the Protection of Civilian Population (PCP) programme
Conducts field assessments either independently or as part of ICRC multidisciplinary teams focusing on the humanitarian needs of affected populations
Contributes to the assessment and identification of protection priority issues in the Area of Responsibility for further monitoring and follow up
Provides practical guidance and support to the Protection team on PCP issues
Supports detention (DET) and Restoring Family Links (RFL) activities when need be
Sensitizes and informs field staff, SRCS, assistants, local organisations and local authorities on ICRC Protection activities
Contributes to an analysis of the general humanitarian situation
Contributes to the definition of the annual objectives and plans of action of the ICRC Protection department
Drafts operational reports and regularly shares an account of ongoing activities
Minimum qualifications and required competencies
University Degree in Social Science, Development Studies or qualification in a related field of study
4 years of experience in a similar field of activities
Knowledge of International Humanitarian Law/International Human Rights Law is an asset
Ability to network, represent the institution externally and dialogue with major stakeholders
Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali
Excellent administrative and organizational skills
Upholds a high sense of responsibility and confidentiality
Computer proficiency especially in MS Office suite
