We are looking for an experienced Structural Engineer to oversee our construction department. As a Structural Engineer and a department lead you will spend time in both the office– designing and planning project details – and on-site where you will provide technical advice to civil engineers and site teams.
To succeed in this role, the candidate should have hands-on experience in structural analysis of buildings using several construction methods and materials and advanced knowledge of latest computer aided design software. The incumbent should have passion for design and construction processes and should uphold the values of the Pharo brand to its highest standards.

Reports to: Construction General Manager.
Reporting to this role: Construction Team (Somaliland).
Pharo Construction General Manager. Commercial Manager.
Pharo Ventures Team (Somaliland).
External legal and regulatory teams.
Customers, suppliers and service providers. Contractors / subcontractors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Develop configurations of the both new build and rehab/refurbished structural project components.
Calculate the pressures, stresses and strains that each component, such as a beam or lintel, will experience from other parts of the structure due to human use or environmental pressures such asweather or earthquakes.
Consider the strength of various materials, e.g. timber, concrete, steel and brick, to see how their inclusion may necessitate a change of structural design.
Liaise with other designers, including architects, to agree on safe designs and their fit with the aesthetic concept of the construction.
Examine structures at risk of collapse and advise how to improve their structural integrity, such as recommending removal or repair of defective parts or rebuilding the entire structure.
Make drawings, specifications and computer models of structures by using computers and computer-aided design (CAD) technology etc. for simulation purposes.
Work with geotechnical engineers to investigate ground conditions and analyse results of soil sample and in situ tests.
Apply expert knowledge of the forces that act on various structures. Any other duty assigned by the Water Development Manager.
Facilitate and sustain a healthy, inclusive team culture where everyone is set up to do their bestwork.
Ensure site teams adhere to necessary safety site information/manuals.
Monitor and oversee project delivery team i.e. civil engineers, supervisors, site engineers etc. Manage team performance and drive a culture of excellence in the organization.
Mentor and coach staff, ensuring the organization continuously builds the internal skills complement.
Develop and nurture relationships with the key stakeholders internally and externally including major partners .
Ensure customer retention and build relationships that guarantees repeat business.
Work with t h e team to ensure excellent customer service while monitoring customer satisfaction on a regular basis.
Closely work with the commercial department regarding project costs and deliveries.
Bachelor degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering. Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is an asset.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in building structural designs. Strong analytical and mathematical skills required.
Professional Engineering license or qualification strongly preferred.
Experience developing schematics for structures in accordance with client specifications and safetystandards.
Project development and leadership skills are essential.
Professional work experience in developing blueprints and designs for proposed structure’s
Extensive knowledge and experience working with various computer based modelling systems such as AutoCAD or similar.
Ability to work with various departments to facilitate the orderly execution of a proposed projectplan.
Knowledge in architecture.
Advanced understanding of build materials, techniques and processes.
Up to date understanding of best practices regarding building safety measures.
Self-assured, internally motivated and passionate individual with outstanding communication and
interpersonal skills driven to succeed and make a difference.
Confident and has courage to stand up for what he/she believes on safety and doing the right thing.
High professional and ethical standards. Risk assessment skills
Problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Can work under pressure.
Ability to influence site staff, contractors and site workers on safe work practices.
Must possess high levels of integrity, resilience, accountability, commitment and determination. Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
Very structured, process oriented and a logical thinker.
Willing to challenge status quo and add value by introducing positive change.
