TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR REPORTING WRITING TRAINING FOR SOS STAFF
SOS Children’s Villages Somaliland is a Member Association of SOS Children’s
Villages International. This federation was first established in 1949 and focused on children’s development into a self-supporting and contributing members of the society. SOS Somaliland is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that is not for profit, non-sectarian, and non-partisan.
It was established in Somaliland in 1999, with its first operations in the Sahil region. Currently, SOS Somaliland is operational in two more regions of Awdal and Marodijeh. SOS implements social programs ranging from childcare, child protection, youth empowerment and participation, education, and emergency relief interventions. SOS works closely with many stakeholders, including government authorities at national, regional, and district levels, other NGOs, INGOs, local communities, as well as CSOs.
SOS Somaliland shares a vision with SOS Children’s Villages International and beliefs that every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect, and security. To realize this, SOS builds families for children in need to help them shape their futures and to share in the development of their communities.

Often ensuring that children grow up in a loving family environment, and strengthening families of origin and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against child abandonment and social negligence. Story writing and narrative reporting is part of every program unit, and all SOS co-workers are expected to articulate their work through descriptive reports and human stories. Therefore, SOS Children’s Villages Somaliland wants to build the capacity of its core care co-workers of social and field workers on story writing and quality reporting, which will create a skilled, competent workforce.
Purpose of the Training
The training aims to improve the report writing process and develop the participants on how to learn techniques to improve the content, structure, and professionalism of their reports so that they can write clear, logically structured words in less time.
The specific objectives of the training are to:
To improve the writing styles to support the report’s purpose.
To learn and understand the main types, components, and purposes of reports.
To acquire the skills in writing techniques
To distinguish between different types of business reports. To Understand key reporting considerations.
To understand the importance of report writing in terms of donor and other project stakeholders’ communication.
The project staff has understood the report writing.
Produced comprehensive training report and shared with SOS.
Scope of the Training
The participants should get a clear understanding of the significant components of report writing, writing styles, and writing techniques.
A progressive, participatory methodology is recommended. In this regard, it is suggested that the training materials to be used by the trainers will be presented mainly through a participatory process, emphasizing experiential learning. The following methods will be used:

Number of Participants:
It is anticipated that a total of 20 to 30 members will attend the training.
Cooperating facilitators agrees:
The facilitator must share the detailed training proposal, work plan, budget, materials, and program ahead of time for quality checks and harmonization.
The facilitator shall provide a comprehensive process report at the end of the training program capturing all the above objectives.
The training facilitator shall include training methodologies and photos in the report. In the report, the participants must categorize participants into gender with the attendance list signed daily.
Duration of the Training
The training will take place for four (4) days, starting from 17th October to 20th October 2020. Each day 6 hours is from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The consultant fees’ payment shall be made in two phases according to the following schedule:
The first payment of 40% advance of the total agreed contractual amount will be made immediately after the signing of the contract agreement.
The second payment of 60% of the total contract amount shall be made to the consultant upon approval and acceptance of the Assessment report.
Profile of the consultant:
The consultant should have:
Master degree in a relevant field like mass communication/public relations, advertising, communication analysis, and planning.
Specific experience in annual report writing for the International organization, project or development partner, and company
At least 4-5 years proved experience in conducting training on report and proposal writing skills.
Excellent consulting skills, proven facilitation, and good interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to transfer complex concepts and ideas into practical and straightforward language
Experience in working with international organizations
Fluency in English (ability to write reports in clear and readable language)
SOS Children’s Village Somaliland agrees to:
Provide with training materials (physical) necessary for conducting training sessions
